Proxy system modeling
Bayesian inference is a powerful way to quantitatively interpret proxy datasets and propagate uncertainties when doing so. One framework for such proxy inversions is "proxy system modeling" (PSM). PSM explicitly addresses both uncertainties associated with observations of geological archives and uncertainties in our understanding of how Earth system parameters (e.g., temperature, dissolved oxygen levels) are encoded in those archives. We are working to bring a PSM approach to the interpretation of paleo-redox and ancient nutrient cycling datasets.
